ARTICLE 6 - USING REIKI TO CHANGE THE ENERGY IN A SPACE

I have always found it very easy to feel the energy in places.
In the past, this ability has driven my husband a little mad. There have been times when we walked away from houses we were considering buying or renting simply because I couldn’t tolerate the energy inside.
How Is Negative Energy Created?
Spaces can hold the energy of those who have lived there, as well as powerful emotional events, such as a tragedy. In some cases, spirit energy may also inhabit the space.
More and more people are starting to recognize the importance of energetically clearing their homes, often doing so as a standard practice when moving into a new house.
But what about animals?
Animals are far more attuned to energies than we are. They can pick up on dissonant energy easily—and they will let you know. Unfortunately, this sensitivity is often overlooked. Yet, for the sake of our animals, we must be more aware. How can we help them if we remain oblivious?
Despite my lifelong sensitivity to energy, I had never considered that animals might also be affected—until my sensitive Thoroughbred, Jazz, taught me a profound lesson. She completely awakened me to the importance of clearing negative energy from her stable.
Energy Clearing Jazz’s Stable
When Jazz came into my life, she never seemed truly happy in her stable, which was part of a large barn. For the first two years, she was only stabled at night during the winter, but even so, her stress was concerning.
She would be fine for a couple of weeks, but then, without any apparent reason, she would become agitated—box-walking and weaving. While all the other horses seemed calm and content, Jazz was restless. Strangely, when I tied her outside the stable to a long bar in the middle of the barn, she would settle.
What was it about her stable?
To help Jazz cope with stress, I became Reiki attuned, and giving her Reiki helped her calm down. But what could I do when she became stressed and I wasn’t there?
During the third summer she was with me, her behaviour escalated. I was preparing her for stabling at night by feeding her in her stable, but the moment I led her in, she instantly barged out. Not even her feed could entice her to stay longer than a minute in her stable.
With the deadline approaching for the horses to come in at night, the answer came to me—I needed to give the stable an energetic cleanse.
For about 30 minutes, I stood inside the stable, pulled in the Reiki energy, and filled the space with it, directing it toward every wall, the floor, and the ceiling.
That night, when I led Jazz into her stable, I could barely believe the transformation. She happily ate her feed, then moved straight to her hay.
But the biggest surprise was yet to come—I had expected to perform regular top-ups, but no further Reiki was necessary. The problem had been put to bed!

Moving Yards & Further Energy Clearing
When we moved to another yard, Jazz became stressed about being in a new stable.
Once again, I performed an energetic cleanse—this time with Jazz inside the stable. Within 30 minutes, she was so relaxed that her eyes were tightly shut, and her head was practically on the floor.
From then on, she absolutely loved that stable. In fact, when the yard changed her field layout, it became clear that she preferred being in her stable rather than the field. It was time for another move!
At the next yard, something unusual happened. On arrival at the new yard, Jazz walked straight into her new stable (and oddly enough, seemed to know which one was hers) and immediately started eating her hay. It was the only place I kept her where I didn’t need to use Reiki on the stable at all.
Sadly, we only spent a year there before another move was necessary. My daughter had relocated, and as her horse and mine were such good friends, a separation was unthinkable. We moved them together to a new yard.
On the first night in her new stable, Jazz was weaving and box-walking.
But within minutes of delivering Reiki, she settled and became very sleepy. My daughter even commented on how quickly Jazz reacted to the Reiki energy.
We have now been at this yard for fifteen months, and I am pleased to say that I haven’t needed to perform any more energetic cleansing.
Final Thoughts
This experience has left me wondering—does Reiki clear away negative energy, or does it simply infuse a space with beautiful, peaceful energy? Perhaps it’s both. Either way, it doesn’t really matter. What matters is that I have been able to help my horse feel at home in her stable, and for that, I am deeply grateful.
In future Articles, I will share many other ways where reiki can benefit our animals.
